1. Account Manager

What You Do What You Need Entry Requirements
You represent a media company and have direct dealings with clients or advertisers. Your duties vary based on the medium you are responsible for such as print media, outdoor media sales, interactive media, call centre and wireless service as well as online advertisements for search engine marketing and classifieds.
 
You will service and manage an existing group of clients and build up a new client base. You must seize opportunites to sell creative ideas or campaigns and help clients execute their advertising campaigns to sell a product or service or to promote an event or corporate image.
  • Meet and discuss campaign objectives and needs with clients
  • Present creative ideas to clients
  • Ensure the smooth execution of campaign decisions by your executives
  • Handle budgets
  • Network within the industry to seek new accounts

  • Knowledgeable about photography, layout principles and styling
  • Excellent conceptualisation skills, creativity and imagination

  • A degree in any discipline, preferably in Graphic Design or Fine Art

3. Artist / Cartoonist / Illustrator

What You Do What You Need Entry Requirements
You use a Macintosh computer or draw free hand. Your job is to:
  • Produce cartoons, illustrations and graphics to add visual impact to stories
  • Work closely with reporters to produce visual images for their stories
  • use graphics to depict news information, for example how a hijacker was overpowered
  • Visit the site of action, if necessary, to work out the proportions for your illustration
  • A flair for drawing and design
  • An eye for detail and the ability to meet daily deadlines
  • Must be meticulous in producing illustrations, maps and tables
  • A sense of humour and wit to spot the funny side of a story
  • Good knowledge of current affairs
  • A diploma in Graphic Design or Visual Arts
  • Two to three years' relevant work experience

4. Graphic Designer

You design artwork and layout for the print media. You also produce illustrations and graphics to add visual impact to stories.

  • Source for shoots, styling and production

5. Photographer / Photojournalist

What You Do What You Need Entry Requirements
You shoot photos to record emotions, arouse curiosity and grab attention for a story. You should be prepared to work long hours, in uncomfortable surroundings and often under pressure to meet deadlines.
 
You work closely with reporters and are constantly on the move.
  • Shoot newsworthy events and people, using cameras and a variety of lenses, filters, lighting systems and reflectors
  • Cover events ranging from official openings and sports events to accidents, crimes and disasters
  • Rush to the scene of an accident, crime or disaster when assigned
  • Discuss with reporters the angle of a story and newsmakers to be photographed
  • Wrestle your way through crowds and policemen to get the best picture
  • Must be creative and observant
  • Must be alert to potential picture opportunities
  • An eye for good pictures and the use of colours
  • Patience and the ability to inspire cooperation from your subject

6. Radio Producer-Presenter

You present or host a dedicated programme on air. As part of your job, you will:
  • Present programmes using the latest audio equipment
  • Think up new programmes, research, write scripts and conduct interviews
  • Prepare on-air and outdoor programmes
  • Create and present sponsored programmes, shows and commercials
  • Excellent command of the language you present in
  • Good voice timbre and excellent oral skills

7. Reporter / Journalist

You are expected to attend press conferences, meetings and major events for newsworthy stories. You need to be contactable at all times, whether or not you are on duty.
 
You are also expected to develop wide contacts and be in the know of newsworthy happenings. The pace is hectic and you work fast to meet daily deadlines. You conduct interviews on the phone or in person.
 
The hours are long and irregular. In the newsroom, you are attached to reporting clusters called "desks". Some examples of desks are News, Money and Political. Your job is to:
  • Gather facts and information through research, personal interviews and on-the-spot observations
  • Write an article based on your findings
  • Present the information in a clear, concise and interesting way
  • Generate or produce story ideas for news articles
  • Work with others to cover major events such as elections, international conferences and trade meetings

Also known as the "sub" in the newsroom, you work under pressure to complete editing, page layout and headline writing before the paper is sent for printing:
  • Edit journalists' copy, look for fairness, balance and accuracy
  • Correct grammar, tighten language and style of writing
  • Rewrite the article, if necessary
  • Write headlines that are accurate, sharp and punchy
  • Select and crop pictures and graphics to go with the story
  • Lay out the page
  • Good judgement in editing an article without distorting the meaning or breaking the flow
  • An excellent command of the language to make stories grammatical
  • Creative writing flair to produce lively headlines and page layouts
  • Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and product work quickly and accurately

9. System Administrator
